Keep Moving Forward: A Christian Perspective

Following from our previous exploration of perseverance and hope, let’s consider how “Keep Moving Forward” finds even deeper roots and transformative power in the Christian faith.

In the last article, we uncovered the universal importance of pressing on through setbacks, just as Lewis does in Meet the Robinsons. But for those walking the path of Christian faith, “Keep Moving Forward” means much more than inner strength or positive thinking — it’s an invitation to participate in the perseverance of Christ Himself and the story of God’s unending love for us¹.

Building on Hope: Christian Endurance

While anyone can relate to failed dreams or broken plans, Scripture teaches that perseverance is powered by God’s promises. Hebrews 12:1–2 literally calls believers to “run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Unlike merely gritting our teeth, Christian perseverance looks to Christ’s example — He endured the cross, despising its shame, because of the joy set before Him².

Adoption and Unconditional Love

In the film, Lewis’s longing for a family mirrors the believer’s experience: Christians are adopted into a spiritual family by God’s grace. Ephesians 1:4–6 reminds us that, in Christ, we are accepted, cherished, and secure — not because of our performance, but through God’s unchanging love³. Failures aren’t fatal — they become places where grace abounds and character deepens.

Real Faith, Real Stories

The last article highlighted enduring figures — Rowling, Sanders, Disney — but for Christians, perseverance is seen in the lives of saints and the faithful throughout Scripture. Paul’s story, for example, is one of pressing “toward the mark for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). Job, having lost everything, still declared: “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him” (Job 13:15)⁴. These stories show that Christian perseverance isn’t just about self-will, but trusting God’s goodness, even when the outcome is unclear⁵.

The Foundation of Our Endurance

“Keep Moving Forward” becomes an act of faith when it is rooted in God’s character. Paul assures, “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6)⁶. Our labor, Scripture promises, “is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58) — because God is faithful, and He never leaves His work unfinished⁷.

Closing Thought

Perseverance gains new power when seen through the lens of Christ’s faithfulness and our adoption as children of God. Moving forward isn’t just good advice — it’s the outworking of God’s unchanging promise. When discouragement comes, remember that your ultimate hope does not rest on grit alone, but on the God who moves alongside you — faithful to complete what He started.
